Military Service Inspires a Movement
An avid athlete his entire life, Raphael Verela joined the Marine Corps where he not only enjoyed a successful career as an American hero serving in Desert Storm and earning the respect and praise of his fellow Marines as well as his superior officers, but also learning a great deal about physical fitness. Raphael, like all Marines, learned that the service’s intense workout regimens focused on whole body exercises that built strength, enhanced cardiovascular stamina, and most importantly, prepared the service men and women for battle.
True Grit, True Results
Upon leaving the Marine Corps as a highly decorated serviceman, he followed his lifelong passion for health and fitness as he studied exercise physiology at Oregon State University.
Raphael’s experience and academic background supported the theory that interval training was one of the best workouts for people of all fitness levels – from elite military men and women to your every day weekend warrior. He confirmed what many scientists and researchers were also discovering: the dynamism that comes with switching quickly from resistance to cardio in less than three minutes burned calories and toned muscle more effectively than most other workouts. Circuit training combines two of the body’s exercise systems, increasing the stored fat expenditure by over 500%. Raphael, was working as a personal trainer for some of Los Angeles’s most elite clientele and was quickly realizing this type of workout was extremely effective for all of his clients – from celebrities and sports specific athletes, to soccer moms.
Rising to the Challenge
With such great results the word spread quickly and Raphael realized he could not keep up with demand training in a one-on-one setting. Raphael transferred the same successful concepts to a dynamic group training program that still allowed for individualized support. Clients loved the new group setting and results validated the transition from one-on-one to group training and Circuit Works was born!

Although Americans are aware that exercise, nutrition, and weight loss pave the road to a healthier body, the traditional image of the gym no longer appeals, leaving an open niche in the market for a new national fitness brand. Group fitness, such as the classes offered at Circuit Works, is becoming one of the hottest trends, providing motivation, group camaraderie, variety, and results. Circuit Works believes that group fitness dramatically increases your chances of success in your workout, because if you’re feeling challenged or losing steam you can look around and find empathy or encouragement from your peers to pull you through.
